Sir Sampleton is a sampling keyboard app for iOS that I originally released in 2010.
The design was inspired by Casio and Yamaha keyboards from the 1980s such as the Casio SK-1 and SK-5.
The app allows you to record sounds through the microphone and then play them on dual piano keyboards accompanied by a rhythm machine.
It supports multitimbral MIDI, and samples can be looped, customized, emailed, and downloaded from the Sir Sampleton website.
The app uses Apple's Audio Units API and OpenGL, and it has low latency and high polyphony.
The Audio Units API is used to compress the microphone input and to sculpt the sample playback to sound more like vintage samplers.
The iPad version of Sir Sampleton allows split screen views of control panels and the keyboard.
